We're going to attempt starting planning work for the kitchen in January. We liked one architect we met with, just have to work out the details after another meeting. We've got a list going for the kitchen already, of things that we would like to address. Here it is transcribed:
Things I hate and want to change about our kitchen
IKEA cabinets -- I cut my knuckles on the shelve edges, the wire baskets are tough to maneuver and impossible to clean under
Stove -- we need more burners, the heat is inconsistent and slow -- I want gas burners
Black and white linoleum (but I already mentioned that)
Window -- we have this ugly type of bay window above the kitchen sink which is great for plants but it doesn't fit in with the house architecture at all. I'd like a more suitable window.
Tile countertop -- it's black tile with black grout and hard to keep clean, not to mention that the counters flex
Sink -- can we say really ancient stainless steel sik with ugly hardware
Storage -- the cabinets are all the wrong sizes and wrong positions for storing things. Pot storage is awful and so I have totally unorganized cabinets
Heating -- it is totally unheated and this time of year it is quite freezing to hang out in
Lonely -- there really isn't any place to hang out comfortably in the kitchen so I get lonely when I'm cooking, I wish it was cozier feeling.
I'll post more about our ideas for the kitchen over the coming weeks and months.
