We met with a designer from one cabinet store and reviewed her initial, rough proposal for the cabinets. While she was very professional, we didn't really like the cabinets she carries and her design didn't really increase the amount of storage area we have.
Our ideas are really starting to coalesce though, and that's progress in itself. Here's where we sit right now:
bump out the kitchen wall into the porch overhang area by the back door -- this retains the existing roofline and will add enough room for a seating area
move washer/dryer to second floor, which will likely require rebuilding the sleeping porch above the back porch/new eating area.
convert half laundry room into a pantry and use the rest of the space to add to the new entry/eating area
consider adding in wall ovens in place of current pantry -- requires some more research
change to a range top with drawers/storage underneath (but I really like the AGA ranges...)
Buttercream wall cabinets with some glass windows
Red cabinet base on center island -- we have an island but this one will be more appropriate to the space and flow of the room
That's all I can think of for now.
