We have various parts of cracked plaster, sections of plasterboard over lathe and not, and some big gaping areas where there is nothing -- just a big a hole behind the old pantry cabinet next to the diningroom door. We couldn't just leave it like that so we have taken on gutting the outside walls and repairing and replacing the other sections on the inside wall. The benefits are full access for plumbing, installing electric, making sure the supports behind the walls are solid (some, in fact are not) and also being able to have a clean structural install on the new picture window over the sink.
We hired someone to help with the wall work this week, who had helped with the addition, and he totally flaked. Not sure what that was about. It is frustrating as we could use the extra help during the work day.
This week should help move us forward on this structural stuff though so within a couple weeks we should be moving forward with the floor heating system install and getting the cabinets installed.
