Down to the last two squares

I've finished block 13 and I'm on my way to the end of this Mitered Square rug.

I've not been knitting anything else though I've been thinking about using my my Sirdar Snuggly on preemie hats for charity, and my Jaeger aran yarn for an aran cardigan. After I'm done with this rug though I'll be back on the Malabrigo scarf which I've been carrying with me everywhere in my shoulder bag.

Then  there are some sewing projects and some art/craft projects, plus renovating the kitchen, getting the outside of the house painted, taking a french class and a drawing class over the next few months.

I better just focus on getting this one thing done.

Twelth block

I'm on the twelth block of the Mitered Square rug  so I'm still making progress. Just 3 and 1/2 blocks left to go, plus more ends to weave it.

I was surfing around blogland last night and I came across this pattern and thought it might work out for the rest of the Jaeger Extra Fine Merino from the Wavy Scarf.

I'm having an exciting morning, cleaning out the grill and fan filter screen from my stove. You know, one of those totally gross cleaning jobs. Right now the screen is soaking but the rest of it is all done thankfully. Now I'm off to put a coat of paint on the office I'm painting in our house.

Second Row Done

I finished square number ten last night which completes the second row. See, the UFOlympics were good for something as I hadn't made that much progress in many months on the rug.

Now I just have a million ends to weave in before I start on the next row. It's looking really cute and now that it's big enough I've tried standing on it and it is nicely soft under my feet. It should be nice to use in the kitchen for in front of the sink.

I've also continued to make progress on my Malabrigo scarf and I'm nearing the end of the first skein.

I asked ZipperStop about that YKK Zipper color of Goldenrod that I saw in a garment zipper at the sewing store. It sounds like they don't have it but they said if I send them a yarn sample in the mail they will help me find a good match. If I'm going to send them something anyway then I might see about returning the bright yellow zipper and doing it as an exchange.

I just need to weave the ends in but it's done. Really the most challenging part was figuring out which patterns for each block, and for some of them I knit them with several patterns and several tries on a given pattern if I misread or misinterpreted the pattern instructions. It came down to a give and take of design versus stitch complexity. So for all ten or so squares I probably tried out 15 or more patterns.

I'll post a photo when I've got the ends woven in but for now I've got to work on my Mitered Square Rug to see how much farther I can push on before the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

Mitered Square Update

It's not going too quickly is it. Oh well, I'll stick at it and eventually it will be complete.

Even after I'm done I'll have lots of kitchen cotton left over and it turns out that my mother likes dishcloths (though she never used them in my lifetime that I've known). I can whip up a few for her -- anyone got any good patterns. I'll have to go search some myself.

I'm knitting, I'm knitting already

Can you hear my New York accent coming back up? I'm across the country visiting family and friends and yes, I am indeed knitting. Logistically though I couldn't bring the mitered square rug with me, it was just too much yarn to bring along with me, especially since my mother was holding out on giving me my Christmas presents until I got here so I needed the extra room in my bag to bring things home.

I did bring along some Rowan Wool Cotton to work on a tam with, my first one and so far its okay but if I decide to keep it I'll definately need to add in some elastic around the edge. I'm working on the decreases now so soon enough I'll be able to see if I like the finished object. The fact that it would be a finished object does have some appeal.

I met up with Jen in Manhattan yesterday and after a visit with some friends of hers we went to the new MOMA and checked out the collection. The museum was a zoo and the Edvard Munch exhibit was impossibly crowded and hot so we retreated to a nearby Starbucks and had tea and knit for a good long while.

I should be able to cast off the tam in another hour or so and then I brought along some other yarn for a baby outfit if I feel like knitting more on the plane. Tomorrow I'll be able to get back to work on the rug.

One more square done

I completed one more square tonight and I'm thinking of picking up stitches on the next one and getting a start though I was also thinking about changing the sheets tonight so we could have the flannel ones as Seattle's going through a cold spell this week.

The next square will be the first where I'm not casting on and I'm just picking up stitches, it should go more quickly I think. Pictures on the next square, I promise.

UFO Progress: Almost done with one more square

I finally was able to pull out my knitting last night and get to work on my UFOlympics project. I've almost finished the first row so that's reasonable progress. I'll have to get off the computer and get to my knitting.
