I bought this yarn ten years ago while visiting Scotland; it's Jaeger Shetland, £3.25 a ball at the time (80% new wool, 20% alpaca) in a nice aran-weight heathered gray.
I bought a bunch, and there are two unopened balls after knitting this:
It was a free-form sweater of my own design but I've never finished it, never worn it because of some shaping issues. It isn't so miserable really but the key problems are:
- Shoulder seam falls where a cap sleeve would go on the top of my arm
- Body is too wide
- Neck is too wide
It was a long time ago when I knit it and I'm not sure exactly what I was thinking. So now I'm torn, do I try to work with this unfinished FO or do I frog it and use this yarn to knit the aran sweater I'm thinking of. I'm sort of leaning toward the latter as this poor sweater has been living its life in a plastic bag.
What do you think?
I feel your pain. If you can hold off for a couple of months, I'll rip out a sweater with you. I'm in the same boat.

It looks cozy, although frogging is part of a knitter's life. I wonder if you could repurpose it somehow? It almost looks like something by Eileen Fisher, though. Do you have a friend who likes that aesthetic?

It's really much too large around the shoulders. I can't even remember exactly how I had hoped to finish it. It's not bad considering I just knit it as I went though. There is always steeking though...
